The regular meeting of the Cotton Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held today. Member of the Cotton Council and Director of the Centre of Bioinformatics Genomics of the Academy of Sciences Z. Buriev presented information on the results of molecular genetic analysis of cotton varieties and hybrids imported from abroad. The reports of the working group leaders on agrotechnical measures and scientific approaches to be implemented at the present stage of cotton care were listened to. The issue of efficiency of the Cotton Council members' work in the regions was also considered.
After hearing the information about the results of molecular-genetic analysis of varieties and hybrids brought from abroad, the opinions of the Council members were expressed.
A comparative analysis of the actual implementation of the approved seed sowing plan was carried out, reports of working group leaders on shortcomings, decisions made and specific practical results, as well as on the state of crop rotation were heard.
‘Due to the fact that the activities of the Cotton Department were organised on a scientific basis, it was possible to eliminate a number of problems, particularly in the cotton sowing system, soil analysis and irrigation system. The cotton cultivation system has been fundamentally reformed as a result of the introduction of new science-based mechanisms for varietal and seed changes. As a result, a positive trend has been observed. Nevertheless, there are still a number of shortcomings that need to be addressed systematically, based on scientific approaches. The main task of the council is to propose concrete solutions on a scientific basis. This should help to increase productivity, reduce costs and increase yields,’ said Sh. Otazhonov, Secretary of the Cotton Council.
The meeting also reviewed the work done during the reporting period, shortcomings and immediate measures to eliminate them.
After that, discussion of scientific projects submitted to the Cotton Council took place. The presentations were followed by discussions with the Council members and the experts gave necessary recommendations and suggestions.
