The next meeting of the Cotton Board under the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held

      Today, under the leadership of Sh. Otajonov, the Secretary of the Cotton Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Director of the National Center for Knowledge and Innovations in Agriculture, the next meeting of the Cotton Council was held. The meeting focused on organizational issues related to the import of foreign cotton seed varieties for the 2025 harvest. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regional administrations, cotton-textile clusters, and seed production enterprises.

     The meeting discussed the preparation of seeds from 17,500 tons of cotton seed raw material harvested from foreign cotton varieties. First, quality processing will be organized, and the seeds will be sorted centrally using laser photo-separators in Bukhara, Namangan, Tashkent, and Jizzakh regions. Additionally, microbiological preparations will be applied to increase seed germination. Furthermore, to assess the purity of the varieties, the imported seeds will undergo molecular-genetic analysis in modern laboratories.

This year, it is planned to plant cotton on 878,000 hectares in the republic, of which:

  • 20% of the area will be sown with seeds of foreign cotton varieties collected last year, and the cotton will be cultivated using the Xinjiang technology;
  • 20% of the area will be sown with local cotton varieties under plastic cover, with 240,000 seedlings planted according to the 76x10 scheme based on highly efficient intensive agro-technologies;
  • The remaining 60% of the area will be sown with local cotton varieties in accordance with a scientifically-based variety placement plan, considering soil-climatic conditions, salinity, water supply, drainage water ratio, and disease foci. The 90 cm planting scheme will be completely abandoned;
  • Additionally, 150,000 hectares are planned to be planted with 12 foreign cotton varieties imported for the 2025 harvest.

"The main task of the members of the Cotton Council in this process is to develop agro-technologies for each variety and ensure their implementation in practice through explanatory seminars and training at the local level, as well as to collaborate with specialists from 'O‘zagroinspektsiya' to identify errors in organizing work, provide practical assistance in correcting them, and take prompt measures to address identified shortcomings," said Sh. Otajonov.
