Regular Meeting of the Cotton Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan
Under the chairmanship of the Minister of Agriculture, Ibrohim Abdurakhmonov, a regular meeting of the Cotton Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held to discuss preparations for the upcoming planting season and the process of preparing cotton seeds. The meeting was attended by members of the Cotton Council, heads of departments and divisions of the ministry, and heads of system organizations.
During the video conference meeting, it was emphasized that as the cotton planting season approaches, every responsible individual must be fully prepared. The ongoing efforts to import foreign cotton seeds from the People's Republic of China were also discussed. Highlighting the importance of this process for the country's agriculture, particularly for cotton growing, participants stressed the need to clearly define the responsibilities of state and non-state organizations. Specifically, proposals were made to differentiate roles, with certain groups focusing on pricing policy while others oversee cotton cultivation agrotechnologies.
Additionally, discussions covered the germination capacity of cotton varieties, molecular-genetic analysis methods for studying the hereditary characteristics of cotton seeds, and the current state of seed preparation. Participants exchanged views on the distribution of local and foreign cotton varieties across regions. The advantages of cultivating foreign cotton varieties using Chinese agricultural technology were discussed, as well as opportunities to increase yields by establishing 20% protective belts in each contour. Attention was also given to the key factors to consider when selecting seed material.
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was emphasized that with the start of the cotton planting season, each responsible official must visit the regions to directly monitor the processes. Specific tasks for working groups in different regions were also defined.
