The VIII World Conference on Cotton Research was held in Tashkent

     The VIII World Conference on Cotton Research was held in our capital from September 29 to October 7 at the International Tashkent Hotel jointly with the International Cotton Research Association (ICRA), the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) and the International Cotton Genome Initiative (ICGI). This prestigious conference was attended by about 400 scientists from more than 30 foreign countries, heads of prestigious international and regional organizations, as well as about 200 domestic scientists, as well as more than 170 cotton clusters and industry enterprises who shared their knowledge and experience. 

     Opening the event with an opening speech, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev noted that today the cotton industry is very important for our country, and thanks to such conferences, solutions to many problems will be found.

     In addition, J. Khodjaev noted that in recent years, large-scale reforms have been carried out in our country specifically in the field of cotton growing, as a result of which a cluster system is being created with the aim of industrial development of the industry on market principles that ensure free competition, create a value chain and increase productivity, and this system is gradually being improved. passage said. In 2021, the Cotton Campaign coalition lifted the boycott of Uzbek cotton as a result of consistent continuation of work aimed at preventing child labor and forced labor in cotton harvesting, as well as recognition of reforms in the industry by authoritative international organizations. 

    During the conference, Minister of Agriculture Ibrahim Abdurakhmanov noted that it was Uzbekistan that took part in this conference as a result of the reforms carried out by our President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in recent years. The Minister also spoke in detail about the history of the cotton industry of our country, today's reforms. In particular, he noted that for the first time in our country, this year, the practice of planting foreign varieties of cotton has been established, early maturing varieties have been created based on the 76 lik scheme, under film, using drip irrigation technologies. 

     Within the framework of the conference, discussions on the topics of crop cultivation systems, the ecology of chemical treatment against insects, robotics and artificial intelligence were held at a number of plenary sessions. Conference participants also made presentations on the topics of genotyping-based mapping (GBS) for determining fiber quality in the global collection of cotton germplasm, as well as comparative transcriptome and co-expression analysis of key genes regulating the efficiency of nitrogen use in cotton genotypes. It should be said that the topics raised at the sessions will be important for the development of new approaches, innovative theology and scientific theories in the cotton sector, as well as for their practical application.

     The World Cotton Research Conference is held every four years, and this year it brought together scientists from all over the world in Uzbekistan for the eighth time. Holding the conference this year in Uzbekistan will make a great contribution to the development of cotton science and industry. Because during the conference, a lot of knowledge was transferred in which everyone working in this field has the opportunity to participate and expand their experience.
